The video essay is one of the most prominent and defining forms of audiovisual knowledge production in the 21st century. With the increasing proliferation and variety of video essays, the concept of space presents an invaluable framework for organizing, orienting and navigating the world of video essays.
This lecture will examine some outstanding works of the past year and how space illuminates their internal and external operations.
Kevin B. Lee is a filmmaker and educator who has produced nearly 400 video essays exploring film and media. His award-winning Transformers: The Premake introduced the “desktop documentary” format and was named one of the best documentaries of 2014 by Sight & Sound.
He is the Locarno Film Festival Professor for the Future of Cinema and the Audiovisual Arts at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI).
The public lecture takes place as part of the series «zu Gast bei Cast». On the occasion of its 15th anniversary, Cast / Audiovisual Media department regularly invites guests from the media and entertainment industry for a discussion.
